Collaboration with Egg Story Digital Arts Academy (ESDAA)

The collaboration between ESDAA and St. Andrew’s Secondary started with both having the belief that all students are unique and have different interests. Animation is a medium that reaches out to different students. It requires drawing, visualization, modeling, physics, research and imagination skills.

With ESDAA’s guidance, the Tan Lye Whatt Animation Lab was set up in October 2007 and will be officially opened on 23 August 2008 by the Tan Lye Whatt family

The lab has 20 PCs ensuite with Adobe Master Collection and Cinema 4D Program.

Animation Seminar by ESDAA:

Students in the Animation Program attended a series of intensive seminars at the Singapore Management University where they came to understand the scope of Digital Animation across the fields of Animation/Film Education, Animation/Film Production, Research, and the Business of Entertainment through the mouth of professionals: David Russel, storyboard supervisor; Carter Emmart, Director of Astrovisualisation, American Museum of Natural History; Lucy Petrovich, media artist, researcher and educator; Marc Ford, who worked at 20th century Fox; Kevin R Walsh, Senior Vice President for Research & Development, Oracle Corporation’s Asia Pacific; Nickson Fong, CEO of Egg Story Creative Production and President of Egg Story Digital Arts Academy.

Animation Workshop by ESDAA:

An animation workshop conducted between Oct- Nov 2007 allowed selected students to experience basics of 3D modeling and the intensive processes of animation- making. This will be an annual event.

In-house training by SASS Teacher:
Having embark on the animation program, the digital art program of the lower secondary art curriculum has taken a new twist. Students are exposed at Secondary Two to basic photo editing, basic 3D modeling and when possible, to simple 3D animation.

So far our students have been performing above expectations.

Future Projects:
A multidisciplinary approach towards Art is in the pipeline, as visualizations of scientific experiments, and attempts to make complex concepts/ideas/ geographical theories/ facts visual are now being attempted.
