St Andrew’s Secondary School
Singapore-Cambridge 2009 GCE ‘O’ Level Results
Our students in the Express classes have done well and have given a performance equivalent to the good one we attained last year. For the second time, we have managed to break the barrier and obtained 2.91 for the Mean Subject Grade (this means that a student getting an average of a B3 for all his subjects is below the mean in St Andrew’s). While we are still waiting for the official analysis and breakdown from MOE, we estimate that this could place us in band 7, up from band 9 where we had been for quite a while prior to 2008.
A breathtaking 82% of our students qualified for junior college and almost all qualify for a polytechnic course. Students obtaining five distinctions make up 1 in every 4.
We have seen some unprecedented distinction rates for our school: 70% distinctions for Maths, Add Maths and Principles of Accounts; 53% distinctions for Combined Science, 61% distinctions for Physics, 54% distinctions for Chemistry and 33% distinctions for English.
We are proud to announce the following top students all from SAJS except for two:

We are as proud of our boys who did not score as well in PSLE, but whom we gave a chance to study in the express stream. The following boys all had PSLE scores that were Express/Normal and yet obtained O level scores that qualify them for junior college. This speaks a lot for their grit and determination, and we want to congratulate:
· Darren Tan Jing Yun (NCC Company Sgt Major) with 7 distinctions
· Zachery Yeo Ji Yue (Waterpolo) with 6 distinctions
· Sean Tay Siang Meng (AFGM) with 4 distinctions
· Wong Jian Sen (Chess Captain) with 4 distinctions

In the Normal Academic classes, we praise God for helping us turn around a falling trend. After 2 years of declining grades, we have reversed the trend and this year our Secondary Five boys have a Mean Subject Grade which is the best yet at 4.6. We have 7 out of 10 boys qualifying for the polytechnic though our figure of 14% qualifying for the junior college is still lower than a best of 21% previously.
Some of this had to do with our ensuring our more capable students offered at least 2 O levels in the previous year so that they gained more confidence in themselves.
We would like to congratulate
- Feng Chao who scored 5 distinctions, 2 of them A1s and an L1R5 aggregate of 11
- Samuel Foo Jaiquan who scored 4 distinctions, 2 of them A1s.
- Brandon Marc Boudville who scored 3 distinctions, 2 of them A1s
We thank God indeed for His grace and for giving us such dedicated staff who were willing to put in extra hours and extra days to work with our students. We thank God too for humble and cooperative students who were willing to work with their teachers.
